Moisture Determination Balances

KEY BENEFITS

  • Primary Method – no initial calibration required
  • Direct Moisture Measurement Method – industry standard test
  • Automatic Taring
  • Numerous drying programs to optimize testing throughput
  • Moisture Meter for both Liquids and Solids

Moisture Determination Balances provide a primary method for accurate moisture measurement by using the loss on drying (LOD) method. A liquid or solid sample is placed in the sample pan. The integrated balance weighs the initial sample. The balance’s lid is closed, start button pressed, and the sample is dried. The balance periodically weighs the sample and when the test is completed, automatically calculates the moisture content (or solid content) of the initial sample.

Depending on the balance, drying can be set for a fixed time, continuous mode, or to dry until a gradient of weight loss is achieved. Our top of the line models will even predict the final moisture percentage and finish the test when the predicted value and associated confidence level meets a pre-determined level of precision. All systems include a three-year warranty.

FD800 – Dual Control Moisture Determination Balance
This moisture balance uses two temperature control circuits, a traditional ambient monitor as well as an infrared sensor to measure the sample temperature. Utilizing the second sensor ensures that the sample is not scorched as drying temperature is automatically feathered downward when the upper limit of acceptable surface temperature is approached.  Therefore, the moisture measurement is true moisture and doesn’t include non-aqueous volatiles or solids that have been burned during the test. At the same time, the test is completed in the quickest possible time, optimizing laboratory throughput.

The FD800 includes all of the advanced features of the FD720 including auto-taring, large pan and sample capacity, direct-connect data output and ergonomic design.

HOW IT WORKS

A Near-Infrared Light Source is reflected off of the liquid or solid sample. The light resonates with the appropriate molecule(s) and a portion of the light is absorbed. The higher the moisture content, the higher the amount of absorbed light. After calibration, the moisture concentration values can be instantly measured without sample preparation.

Calibrations and calibration points are stored within the analyzers, providing tremendous versatility for the diversified manufacturer. Moisture can be measured in the lab, near line (desktop), and online/inline throughout the manufacturing process, or in field applications with our unique handheld portables.
