Direct Surface-Temperature Control for Samples That Scorch Before They Dry
Conventional moisture balances sense only the air temperature inside the drying chamber. Sample depth, particle size, and volatility mean the surface can scorch which drives off compounds other than water and corrupting the result. More importantly, this can happen long before the chamber reading or visual inspection suggests a problem. The FD800 adds a second, non-contact sensor that reads the sample surface directly, giving you control over the temperature that actually governs the dry.
Flagship Capabilities
- Dual temperature control: Alongside the chamber thermistor (T1), a non-contact radiation thermometer (T2) reads the sample surface directly and controls to it up to 250 °C. Apply high initial heat for fast drying, then feather it down as the surface dries. The net result is removing moisture without scorching the sample or driving off other volatiles. No other moisture balance in the line sees the surface temperature.
- Predictive measuring mode: The FD800 compares projected weight change against the actual change in real time and ends the test the moment results fall within confidence limits. This unique feature ensures maximum throughput with no risk of cutting a measurement short. It is one of six drying modes, so you can match the profile to any sample.
- Ready for high-mix workloads: Ten stored measuring conditions keep a tuned, ready-to-recall profile for every material you test, and on-board memory holds 100 results for batch review or output.
- Documentation built for GMP and GLP: Each result outputs over RS-232C as tab-delimited data straight into Microsoft Excel or a thermal printer. There is no proprietary software required. Password protection restricts settings changes, supporting the data-integrity and access-control practices these frameworks require.
Built on the Proven FD720 Platform
Beneath the dual-sensor system is the full FD720 platform which includes the large 120 g capacity and 130 mm dish along with Kett’s patented auto-taring to hold readings drift-free through long runs. Because loss on drying is a primary gravimetric method, a result run to completion is definitive and traceable, not inferred from a correlation. The FD800 handles liquids, pastes, powders, and large particulates that defeat single-sensor balances, while operating as directly as the rest of the line: set your conditions, place the sample, close the lid, and press start. Every unit carries Kett’s One-Year Total Care Warranty covering parts, labor, and specification compliance, with Maintenance Agreements available.
Don’t need non-contact surface control? The FD720 Universal Moisture Balance covers the same 120 g, six-mode loss-on-drying platform for everyday QC at a lower cost.
Testing routine samples or tight on bench space? The FD660 Compact Moisture Balance delivers efficient loss-on-drying analysis in a smaller, lighter package.
