Kett HB300 Universal Moisture meter with standard probe portable instant

Universal Moisture Meters

Measure moisture in virtually any material with a single portable instrument. This includes non-standard, proprietary, and specialty products where no dedicated meter exists. The Kett HB300 Universal Moisture Meter lets you create and store custom calibrations for up to 10 different materials, from powders and granules to pastes, sheets, and compressed products. Each calibration has direct traceability to your existing reference method.

Instant, non-destructive readings require no sample preparation, no drying time, and no chemical reagents. A growing library of interchangeable probes adapts the meter to flat surfaces, bales, sheets, and hard-to-reach locations. Battery-powered and built for the production floor, warehouse, and field, this is the one moisture meter that goes wherever your materials do.

Key Benefits

Why manufacturers, laboratories, and field personnel choose Kett Universal Moisture Meters for their testing.

Coatweight and Film Thiickness

One Meter, Virtually Any Material

Eliminate the need for separate moisture meters for each product. Create custom calibrations matched to your specific materials and store up to 10 in the instrument. Switch between materials with the push of a button.

Instant Measurements

Instant Results, No Sample Preparation

Place the probe on your material and read the moisture value directly on the large LCD display. No drying time, no sample preparation, and no chemical reagents. Results in seconds, not hours.

Multiple Components

Interchangeable Probe System

A standard contact probe is included for general-purpose testing. Optional probes and clamp fixtures extend the meter to specialized materials — from paper and cardboard to hay bales, wood products, and hard-to-reach surfaces.

Simple User Calibration

Calibrate the meter to your exact material using three to five reference samples. Each calibration provides direct traceability to your current reference method and is stored permanently until you choose to change it. No factory service or software required.

Liquids and Solids

Truly Portable

Battery-powered at just half a kilogram with a carrying case and shoulder strap. Ergonomic design keeps measurements comfortable and accurate through extended testing sessions on the production floor, at a supplier or customer site, or out in the field.

Coatweight and Film Thiickness

Integrated Data and Quality Tools

Automatic measurement averaging, 250-reading data storage with timestamps, upper-limit alarms, and bias correction keep your quality process consistent. Optional printer output provides a paper trail for documentation.

How it Works

The HB300 measures moisture using the electrical resistance method — a proven, reliable technique for contact-based moisture measurement. The probe’s electrodes make contact with the material and pass a small electrical current through it. Because water conducts electricity, wetter materials allow more current to flow, producing lower resistance. Drier materials resist the current more strongly, producing higher resistance. The instrument converts this resistance reading into a moisture percentage using a calibration curve matched to the material being tested.

To take a measurement, select a stored calibration for your material, place the probe against the surface, and press the measurement button. The large LCD display shows your moisture reading instantly, with 0.1% resolution. For quick spot checks, a built-in reference calibration lets you take relative moisture readings right out of the box, before creating any custom calibrations.

To calibrate the meter to a specific material, prepare three to five samples at different moisture levels and measure their actual moisture content using a reference method such as oven-drying or a moisture determination balance. Then enter the corresponding HB300 readings and reference values into the instrument. The meter calculates the calibration curve and stores it permanently, ready to recall whenever you test that material again. Up to 10 separate calibrations can be stored at once, making it easy to switch between products on the same line or at different facilities.

A standard contact probe is included for general-purpose testing. For specialized materials, interchangeable probes and clamp fixtures adapt the meter to sheets, bales, wood products, and piles.  Products stored in confined spaces, such as super sacks, hoppers, drums, and other containers, can be instantly measured.   Decades of proven Kett probe designs mean there is a probe for nearly any measurement challenge. What You Can Measure

Sample Industries and Applications

Universal moisture meters provide instant, non-destructive moisture measurement across a wide range of industries — especially for non-commodity and proprietary materials where no dedicated meter exists.

Manufacturing

Construction

Moisture testing happens at material receiving, on the job site, and before installation — checking moisture in composite blocks, insulation materials, and proprietary building products. Excess moisture in construction materials leads to mold growth, adhesive failure, and premature structural degradation that results in costly callbacks and warranty claims. A universal moisture meter with custom calibrations matched to each material gives crews a fast, reliable check before problems get built into the structure.

Pulp and Paper

Pulp & Paper

Moisture measurement occurs during production, at the roll or sheet level, and during incoming inspection of raw materials like pulp bales and recycled stock. Incorrect moisture in paper and board products causes curl, dimensional instability, print defects, and rejected shipments. A portable meter with interchangeable paper probes lets operators spot-check anywhere on the production floor without pulling samples for lab testing.

Manufacturing

Building Materials & Manufacturing

Quality teams test moisture during mixing, forming, curing, and before packaging of products like drywall, gypsum board, fiber cement, and concrete block. Shipping product with out-of-spec moisture leads to crumbling, warping, mold complaints, and returns that erode margins and customer confidence. A universal meter calibrated to each product line provides instant pass/fail checks at every stage.

Food & Beverage

Moisture checks happen at ingredient receiving, after blending, and before packaging for products like dry mixes, kibble, trail mix, snack foods, and powdered ingredients. Too much moisture causes caking, clumping, microbial growth, and shortened shelf life; too little means yield loss and customer complaints about texture. A portable meter calibrated to each product lets line operators test in the bag, bin, or tote without sending samples to the lab.

Manufacturing

Mining & Minerals

Field and plant personnel measure moisture in gravel, aggregate, calcium carbonate, and bulk mineral materials at the quarry, stockpile, and truck scale. Moisture errors translate directly into inaccurate weight-based pricing, specification noncompliance, and mix design failures downstream. A rugged, portable meter that reads instantly from any pile or tote eliminates guesswork at the point of transaction.

Agriculture

Agriculture & Forage

Moisture testing applies to hay bales, forage cubes, alfalfa cubes, silage, and animal feed at harvest, storage, and point of sale. Baling or storing forage at incorrect moisture levels causes spontaneous heating, mold contamination, nutrient loss, and in extreme cases, barn fires. A portable meter with bale probes provides an immediate reading in the field or at the stack, before the material is committed to storage.

Pharmaceutical

Pharmaceuticals & Nutraceuticals

Incoming raw material inspection, in-process checks during granulation and blending, and finished product verification all require moisture data. Moisture out of specification can compromise tablet hardness, capsule integrity, dissolution rates, and shelf stability — any of which can trigger batch rejection or regulatory action. A portable meter calibrated to each formulation gives production staff a fast check without waiting for lab results.

Biomass & Renewable Energy

Moisture measurement is critical at feedstock receiving, after drying, and before pelletizing or combustion of materials like wood chips, straw, agricultural residues, and finished pellets or briquettes. Excess moisture reduces combustion efficiency, increases emissions, and degrades pellet durability during storage and transport. A portable meter calibrated to each feedstock type provides instant quality checks at the dryer outlet, pellet press, or delivery point.
